Have
you ever wished you had more arms and legs just so that you
could keep your child still during nappy changes? Do you get
frustrated at toddlers rolling over just as you have everything
nicely in place? Has your baby ever come close to falling
off a change table when you took your eyes off them for a
"split second"?
The HUG N HOLD is a secure, easy way to gently
restrain a baby or toddler onto a nappy changing pad during
nappy changes. This not only makes nappy changes easier
for you, but safer for your child. The award winning HUG
N HOLD is an ingenious invention which prevents rolling
at shoulder level. It acts like an extra pair of hands to
hold baby's shoulder gently down on the changing pad, leaving
your hands free for the actual nappy change.
Because
your child cannot roll over, the HUG N HOLD makes
it safer for nappy changes in all elevated change tables,
including change stations in public rest rooms. Of course,
you should never leave your child unattended at any nappy
change, but the added security of them not being able to
roll helps prevent those falls that can happen in a split
second, even when you are close by.
How it works. The HUG N HOLD is a harness that
fits around your child's chest and shoulders. It is made
of soft cotton flannel, so it is very comfortable for the
child and is fastened into place quickly and easily using
Velcro. The
harness is then buckled around a stiff backed changing pad.
The weight of the child on the pad, in combination with
the gentle restraint of the harness makes it difficult for
the child to roll over. It can be used on any stiff backed
change pad, including those in public rest rooms. Extra
cardboard backing can be used to stiffen the back of the
harness for added security.
"I received my HUG N HOLD about 3 weeks ago and
I can't begin to express how much it has changed my life.
I am a paediatric nurse and have changed thousands of babies
diapers in my career and have never had the difficulties
that I have experienced with my extremely strong-willed
10 month old. I dreaded diaper changes so much because I
found myself becoming angry at my son for "making" it so
difficult and frustrating for me and then angry at myself
for feeling that way toward him. I saw the HUG N HOLD
.and
thought that this could be a solution
.What an amazing
product! From the first diaper change everything changed.
Sam tried several times to sit up and roll as he was accustomed
to doing, but he quickly learned that he couldn't do it.
As for the price....it is SO WORTH IT!!! I wouldn't think
of changing a diaper without it! I wish that I had found
this product sooner and am so happy with the quality and
the ease of use
Thank you, thank you, thank you! ....this
product WORKS!" Jada Abingdon, MD
"I feel sorry for other parents who haven't discovered this because they
don't know how much easier their lives could be."
The HUG N HOLD can be used on babies and toddlers
of any age, but like any form of gentle restraint, best
results are achieved when started at an early age. Babies
come to accept the harness as part of the normal nappy changing
routine. Older children whom have been used to rolling freely
may make a fuss to start, but they soon accept that they
can't get away. When children get close to two years old,
they can understand cause and effect, and understand that
if they try to run away the HUG N HOLD will be put
on, but if they lie still, it will be kept off.
And it is especially useful for parents with physical
disabilities that weaken or decreases muscle control, such
as arthritis or muscular dystrophy. The effect of the HUG
N HOLD is to give another pair of hands when it is needed
the most, so that you can concentrate on using your strength
for the nappy change, rather than just keeping your child
still.
It
is also a useful aid for parents whose children have muscular
disabilities. Those children who are prone to random and
sudden movement changes are especially risky to change on
elevated change tables. It seems that all the time goes
on keeping them safe, meaning that the nappy change takes
much longer than it should.
The HUG N HOLD will help keep your child safe from
rolling, so that you can concentrate on the nappy change.
Once again, this is not a full safety device. It is intended
as an aid during nappy change, as should never be used to
replace direct supervision.
It may be beneficial in other ways for children who have
reduced muscle tone, especially in the back, and may be
used, for instance, as a support in shopping trolleys. In
this case, the HUG N HOLD can be used as a supportive
tool to help keep the body upright. The harness is placed
around the chest and over the shoulders as normal, and then
buckled to the back of the trolley seat. The chest part
holds the child's shoulders back so that they don't fall
to the front or sides. It also helps the child to develop
their sitting balance and improve their muscle strength
because it will support and stop them from falling, but
it still allows enough movement for their muscles to need
to do some work at balancing upright against a very small
side to side movement.
HUG N HOLD was developed by an occupational therapist
and mother and has won numerous awards in the USA where
it produced, including being awarded Best Product by Orca
Communications (www.bestproductsmediaguide.com)
and the 2004 iParenting Media Award.
